After Seventy years' captivity God graciously allowed His people Israel to return from Babylon to their homeland.
Ezra was a teacher who helped them undertsand God's law.
Nehemiah was the governor whom the king appointed over the people.
Esther became the Queen of Persia and helped the people who did not return.
The lives of all three have lessons for God's people today.

These hymns have been published under the title Themes from the Classics. Mrs. Dougan has also contributed to five volumes of The Looking Glass, daily devotional readings for teens. Jean Dougan has drawn many practical lessons from the Living Word of God.
